Zadrian Smith on Styling Ariana DeBose and More at BAFTAs, Critics’ Choice – WWD – Pen 18

Zadrian Smith and Sarah Edmiston styled 10 celebrities for the Critics’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles and the BAFTAs in London on Sunday.

Two fashion stylists and their global team of 15 members were able to tackle the feat with relative ease, styling double winner Ariana DeBos, Critics’ Choice host Ty Diggs, and newcomers Kasi Walfall and Coral Pea. Array of extraordinary looks.

“It’s logistics because, obviously, when you have so many customers, you have to make sure there’s no clash of designers and you’re not overlapping,” Smith explained over the phone. “First and foremost, it’s about listening to customers. These are huge moments for our customers and we thought about what designers have supported us and are working on, what designers do in an organic and natural way. We are promoting diversity and inclusivity. They are always going to be our first call.”

For Sunday night, Smith was stationed in Los Angeles to work with clients attending the Critics’ Choice Awards, while Edmiston was in London for the BAFTAs. He explained that each customer had a dedicated member of his team during the preparation, while he and the admins also checked on the customers.

The fashion stylists continue their styling ethos of being true to each and every client when it comes to their styling. For Debos, who has won nearly every award nominated so far this awards season for her breakout role as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story,” stylists wanted to pay tribute to her character and the actress’ Latin roots. Two yellow gowns by Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera.

“The scene I remember in a movie theater where people were shouting and clapping is the song ‘America’, then [DeBose] The yellow and red dress is on,” Smith said. “The dress says a lot about just wanting to come to America and leave my home for a better life and having all these thoughts about what America was going to be like, but is it really? is very nuanced and multifaceted and I think fashion can tell a story very powerfully. The yellow color of the dress is hope and optimism, striving for something better and it’s joy, but then you see the red and, my For, it is representative of the difficulty, what you have to do to find that joy and optimism.

DeBose personally wore a custom yellow chiffon Oscar de la Renta gown at the 2022 BAFTAs that featured a large red flower at the hip. She then changed into a Carolina Herrera yellow taffeta column gown from the designer label’s Fall 2022 ready-to-wear collection for the 2022 Critics’ Choice Awards, which she attended at the London Satellite.

“Oscar de la Renta dress with red floral motifs and yellow chiffon,” Smith continued, “the softness and how airy it was and then you go to the Carolina Herrera dress, which was a stiffer taffeta fabric and was more statuesque. I Thought it was a beautiful combination of the two gowns and represented two versions of Ariana paying homage to Anita.

Smith and Edmiston were also responsible for Wallfall’s red carpet debut, playing the titular character in Ava DuVernay’s new series, “Naomi,” and Pea, who starred in Apple TV+’s “For All Mankind” at the Critics’ Choice Awards. We do. Walfall stunned in a playful Chanel tweed fringe couture dress, while Pea wore a black Solace London dress with puff sleeves.

Regarding Wallfall’s look, Smith said: “Sometimes you see these young stars and the outfit they’re wearing or it’s too mature. I don’t want to talk too much fanfare, but I think the pictures of Kasey Watching, she feels organically and authentically a 17-year-old teenager who is on the cusp of a great career.”

Also for the BAFTAs, Smith and Edmiston styled “Dune” actress Sharon Duncan-Brewster in custom Versace printed form by 2021 BAFTA EE Rising Star Award recipients Buckeye Buckeye and Ozwald Boateng.

When it comes to their male clients, Smith and Edmiston continue last year’s red carpet trend of men’s high-fashion dressing with their client Max Harwood, who attended the BAFTAs as a presenter and appeared in his film To represent “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie”. Stylists turned to Moschino for the actor, dressing him in a soft metallic green suit with a silver peacock brooch.

“For me, it was the peacock brooch because anyone who knows about menswear knows that there is a whole study on male peacocks,” Smith explained. “The male peacock wants to show off or is dandy, so for me it matches our peacock. I thought the brooch brought everything together in this wonderful way.”

To host the digs, stylists went with two looks, a deep purple, velvet Giorgio Armani tuxedo for the red carpet, and then a black wool tuxedo from Berluti for the show.

“Tai is very old school from the 1940s and 1950s, Hollywood’s leading man,” Smith said. “We always find a way to do this, so it’s fabrication and silk lapel. We always think about those things when we’re working with Tye.”

While the stylists had a huge undertaking for Sunday’s awards show, it was important for them and their team to make the most of these moments and help their clients achieve the look and messages they strive for. Was doing.

“We are really shifting the narrative for these people,” concluded Smith. “For me, it’s not about being on the best dressed list—it’s cool, but it’s about those human moments where you can see that you’ve transcended the garment and you’ve lost someone’s soul.” and touched my heart.”

Ukraine war: SBI sees Re at 77.5 by June; CAD at 3.5 pc if crude boils; GDP growth at 7.1 pc

House economists at the country’s largest lender SBI forecast more pain for the rupee if the current Ukraine war falls to a new low of 77.5 a dollar by June and marginally to 77 by the end of December. .

He also said that if crude oil trades at USD 130 per barrel, the current account deficit (CAD) will be 3.5 per cent, which will reduce the growth rate to 7.1 per cent.

If the FY23 average oil price rises to US$100 a barrel, it will reduce growth to around 7.6 per cent from the previously projected 8 per cent, inflation to rise from 4.5 per cent to 5 per cent, and the current account gap USD will rise. 86.6 billion or 2.5 percent of GDP and could rise to 3.5 percent if oil prices averaged at USD 130 billion.

In that case, inflation would drop to 5.7 per cent and GDP growth to 7.1 per cent, State Bank of India’s group chief economic advisor Soumya Kanti Ghosh said in a note on Monday.

The rupee is the most affected emerging market currency since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and macroeconomic sanctions against Moscow.

Crude oil has been at a boil since the attack – rising from USD 93 to USD 130 a barrel last week, at the level of USD 110.

Russia supplies 14 percent of the global crude oil supply and 17 percent of the world’s natural gas.

The near-term outlook for the rupee remains challenging till geopolitical tensions ease. He added that with the uncertainty high, it could further reduce portfolio inflows, which have been in reverse gear with outflows of USD 12 billion so far in 2022.

The war has led to an increase in the prices of almost all other commodities, including agricultural commodities.

Anticipating a really tough time for the rupee, which had hit a record low of 77.01 last week, he said if the Ukraine conflict still continues, the rupee could fall to 77.5 by June and 77 by December 2022. There may be a slight correction from the dollar.

Even as the Russian-Ukraine conflict continues, though the rupee is likely to trade in the higher zone, the FY23 average should not exceed 76-78, with an appreciable bias, Ghosh said. .

During the last global financial crisis, the rupee continued to depreciate and declined by about 13 per cent during January 2008 to July 2011. However, after the crisis, volatility became significant and the rupee fell by 41 per cent during July 2011 to November. 2013.

On the impact of extreme volatility in crude oil prices on CAD, inflation and GDP, he said a USD 10 per barrel rise in Brent prices would lead to a 20-25 bps increase in inflation, 35 to 35 per cent in the current account deficit. bps will increase. Increase GDP, fiscal deficit by 8 bps and reduce GDP by 15-20 bps.

He said that in the next few months, crude oil staying above the $100 level and falling commodity prices could be Damocles’ sword for the emerging markets.

fadnavis: Police quiz Devendra Fadnavis in phone tapping case

A team of Mumbai Police on Sunday questioned Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis in connection with the ‘illegal phone tapping’ case. The BJP leader was asked at his residence whether he had violated the Official Secrets Act by leaking details of the phone tapping case.

The phone tapping case refers to the March 2021 incident when Fadnavis alleged that postings of top IPS officers in Maharashtra were being given to government officials in exchange for bribes. Fadnavis had then claimed that he would send the matter to the Union Home Secretary for investigation.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi government had then claimed that the phones were illegally tapped by IPS officer Rashmi Shukla, who was the state’s intelligence chief at the time. Fadnavis was questioned on Sunday as to how he got hold of documents, including tapes of alleged conversations between police officers and middlemen involved in the transfers.

When Fadnavis was being questioned by Mumbai Police officials, senior BJP leaders gathered outside his residence (where the interrogation took place) in support of Fadnavis. BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar said, “The person who exposed the scams is being questioned while those involved in corruption are being saved.”

Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, however, justified the interrogation, saying the police officers were only taking Fadnavis’ statement.

Walse Patil explained, “They are not treating him as an accused, they are taking his statement as a witness in the case. Police officers just want to know how the data (transcript and recorded conversation) was leaked. Done.”

He denied that the government was being vindictive as the BJP was claiming, “Police have waited for a year to record his statement. Police just want to find out facts about the case.”

After interrogation, Fadnavis claimed that the MVA government was trying to silence him. “What Walse Patil is claiming is untrue. The police inquiry was on the basis whether I had committed an offense of Official Secrets Act or not. The interrogation was not such that a witness would be asked. Ever since I brought out Fadnavis said that The scams in the government, later attempts are being made to target me in such ways.

The BJP leader said he told police officials that he was a whistleblower under the Whistleblower Protection Act and had not disclosed any ‘sensitive’ details related to the phone tapping case.

While most of the MVA ministers justified Fadnavis’s police interrogation. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said: “Every political party in the country should behave responsibly and there was never such a situation in the state. Using agencies to send notices (against rivals). I have told the Prime Minister that everyone should One should work for the development of his state, which is why he has been elected.”

india: India set Sri Lanka a massive target of 447 runs to win

India got Sri Lanka out in the Pinkball Test in Bangalore, we batted and got out. The second day of the Test match was an example of how ruthless this Indian team is in the face of the game. Jasprit Bumrah is such a versatile bowler that he can get you out even at the rank turner. He was ruthless against the Sri Lankan lower order, deploying the short ball with precision and venom.

Sri Lanka’s batsmen gave Bumrah 5 for 24, his first five-wicket haul in India and eighth overall. But Bumrah’s advantage is that he does not hunt alone. The pack includes Mohammed Shami, who seams the ball in all conditions and sets up the batsmen with extreme deceit. R Ashwin takes over as Bumrah’s new-ball partner at the rank turners in India and he not only targets the leading batsman, he has plenty of tricks in the bag for the tail, as he did with Suranga Lakmal and Vishwa Fernando. proved to be a fool. It seems that as the captain of the team, Rohit Sharma has the knife of the Cricket Swiss Army. Every situation, every demand, solution is at hand. In the day-night Test, it was not only easy, it was very good for the opposition.

At the start of the first day, when the ball was turning, India’s batsmen had enough means to put up a decent total on the board. Then when the lights came on and the ball started swinging a bit, they had fast bowlers who could support them. On the second day, Sri Lanka lost by 23 for 4 in 5.5 overs, their resistance lasting 27 minutes. With a lead of 143, India’s batsmen could go there and do their bit without the fear of pressure from the scoreboard.

But, being so far ahead, the batsmen probably didn’t focus too much on the performance in the first innings. Both Rohit and Hanuma Vihari started off, only to throw away their wickets, with the former caught over the fence and the latter trying to sweep straight. And what about Virat Kohli? For the second time in the game he got a ball that was kept low. You have to give him that much, but for the second time in all these days he played right back, and was plumb in front when his attempt to get the ball onside failed. India in crisis? You would think so, but Sri Lanka would have known better by now. The way this team progresses, many of those records are about to be rewritten.
