bjp: Wait for findings: BJP as its leaders allege ‘conspiracy’ in Jahangirpuri clash

A day after violence broke out during Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri area of the national capital, BJP leaders took a defensive stand saying that since the police is probing the matter, the party will comment only after the investigation is completed.

Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta visited the area late on Sunday night. He is planning to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah to apprise him of the situation.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra, in response to questions from media persons on the issue, said, “The matter is under investigation and we should wait for the findings.”

On Saturday, soon after the incident, Gupta and other Delhi BJP leaders like Manoj Tiwari called the violence a conspiracy.

During the media briefing, the BJP attacked the opposition leaders over a joint statement that was later issued expressing concern over incidents of communal violence.

“On Saturday Sonia Gandhi, some Left leaders and Farooq Abdullah made an appeal on the rising incidents of communal violence. I condemn this selective outrage and politics of appeasement which was going on for the last 70 years. It is politics that divided hai society,” Patra said, adding that the opposition leader was silent on the incidents of violence in Rajasthan’s Karauli.

Meanwhile, in a social media post on Sunday, UP BJP President and Minister of State Swatantra Dev Singh accused Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal of inciting violence to seek political mileage. Patra and Gupta, however, focused on the corruption allegations against Delhi minister Satyendar Jain during a media briefing at the party headquarters.

For the past one week, the party has directed its MPs, MLAs and other leaders in Delhi to visit the capital’s schools and expose the claims of reforms made by the AAP government in the state.
