MI send CSK out of reckoning for IPL play-offs with five-wicket win

Mumbai: Mumbai Indians dashed defending champions Chennai Super Kings’ dim hopes of a place in the Indian Super League play-offs with a five-wicket win in a low-scoring match here on Thursday. Opting to bowl, MI bowled out CSK for 97, with paceman Daniel Sams running (3/16 in 4 overs), though the MS Dhoni-led side’s top-order took three quicks off a quick start. Took wickets, and then huff and hiss for overhaul with 31 balls to spare. Small target of 98 runs.

Tilak Verma (34 not out off 32 balls) and Hrithik Shuken (18) put on a 48-run partnership for the fifth over to calm tired nerves. MI reached 103 for 5 in 14.5 overs.

Tim David remained unbeaten on 16 off just seven balls.

With their eighth loss in 12 matches, CSK are out of the play-off spot. He finished ninth with eight points.

Out of the race for a play-off berth not too long ago, MI finished 10th and bottom with three wins from 12 matches.

Both CSK and MI have two crucial matches left to play. This will be the first time in IPL history that neither Mumbai nor CSK will be part of the play-offs.

Defending 97, Mukesh Choudhary (3/23) struck Ishan Kishan (6) off the fifth ball of the opening over well with his body to see Dhoni see through a thin edge behind the stumps.

MI captain Rohit Sharma hit a boundary each in the next two overs off Chowdhary and Simarjit Singh. But Simarjeet’s last laugh was caught by Dhoni in the fourth over at the hands of Rohit.

Choudhary then gave Daniel Sams (1) and Tristan Stubbs (0) hope of a CSK miracle in the fifth over in a span of three balls.

After the powerplay, MI scored 36 for 4 and Hrithik survived after a fond review.

Moeen Ali broke the fifth-wicket partnership between Verma and Shuken later in the 13th over, but it was too late as MI needed just 17 runs in 7.2 overs.

Earlier, Sams had broken up CSK’s top order from which the Dhoni-led side could never recover.

Riley Meredith and Kumar Karthikeya took two wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah and Ramandeep Singh took a wicket each as CSK played the innings in 16 overs.

CSK’s troubles compounded with the non-availability of the Decision Review System (DRS) due to a power cut at one of the floodlight towers at the Wankhede Stadium after the start of their innings, during which they lost three wickets, including two LBW decisions.

Captain Dhoni played single handed for CSK in his innings of 36 not out off 33 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes. None of his colleagues supported him in his pathetic batting performance.

Dwayne Bravo (12), who shared a 39-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Dhoni, was the second-best batsman in CSK’s innings. But for the 15 extra players accepted by the Mumbai bowlers, the total for CSK would have been very small.

In the end, Dhoni ran out of partners.

Conway, who played a match-winning 87 in CSK’s match against Delhi Capitals, hit the pads on the second ball of the innings bowled by Sams. The umpire raised his finger though the ball hit him just below knee roll and it looked like it was going down leg. There was no DRS, and Conway had to go to zero.

Two balls later, Moeen Ali (0) made another Sams delivery for Hrithik Schuken to take a catch at short midwicket, as CSK were down two for five in the opening over.

It was Bumrah’s turn to join the party as he dismissed Robin Uthappa (1) who could not ask for a DRS review of the LBW decision.

CSK got some respite after a 10-ball devastation but Sam was not done yet as they removed opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (7), who dismissed Ishan Kishan from behind the wicket on the first ball of the fifth over. After the powerplay, CSK scored 32 runs for 5 wickets.

After Shivam Dubey was dismissed in the seventh over, Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo slowed the procession in the dressing room as they took CSK to 72 for 6 at the end of the 12th over.

But CSK were back to square one as Bravo, Simarjit Singh and Mahesh Thekshana were reduced to 87 for 9 at the end of 15 overs in the space of eight balls.

mittal: Cultural differences have hurt merged Voda Idea: Sunil Mittal

Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Mittal said cultural differences between the different merging conglomerates have led to conflict that Vodafone Idea – the telecom joint venture between UK’s Vodafone Plc and India’s Aditya Birla Group – faced today. doing.

Mittal said at a CII event on Thursday, “When Vodafone (India) and Idea Cellular merged, I said it wouldn’t work because you have two different cultures put together, and That’s exactly what happened with the company.”

He added that the Vi merger did not work because “the UK’s Vodafone is a multinational company with a very open culture, while Birla” is a large business enterprise rooted in India with a financial-results orientation.

“Vi should have been a great company,” Mittal said, noting that at the time of the merger (in August 2018), it had the largest network in the country, the largest fiber network and the largest market share at 42%. Was too. But instead it became “a classic case of mix-and-match culture not working”.

V did not respond to Mittal’s comments at the CII event.

But a person familiar with Vi’s thinking, however, dismissed these comments.

“Many people who are part of the Airtel culture have moved on from my company… These negative comments have been made well before the Vi merger took effect, and at some point, the company found itself creating a cocoon and Decided to ignore all about it,” he told ET.

This person said that while there were genuine apprehensions about Wei’s merger, “it had nothing to do with culture … the concern was layoffs”.

To this end, Mittal said that credibility of governance also plays a big role in fundraising, noting that V has been struggling to raise funds for the past two years, it took only six months to raise billions of dollars for Bharat Airtel. There were phone calls. period of crisis.

However, an executive familiar with Vi’s strategy countered Mittal by saying once again that Vi’s fundraising faced challenges due to the credibility of the regime, but because the telco failed to create value in its 4G services. Used to be. This, he said, was the result of a lengthy merger process that the two erstwhile companies – Vodafone India and Idea Cellular – had gone through.

It took a total of about three years, from the announcement to the full amalgamation of the two companies.

“Meanwhile they (VI) failed to build and expand their 4G base, which meant that investors were not seeing value in the company,” he told ET.

Focusing on the emerging geopolitical scenario amid the pandemic and the ongoing Russo-Ukraine war, Mittal said that in a departure from global supply chains, the world is increasingly moving into the era of reliable supply chains. Many companies, he said, were, in fact, shifting their supply chains out of China, opting for reliable supply chains, even at the risk of higher costs.

“I think unlike the global supply chain we’re going to have reliable supply chains and that’s a big, massive change that you’re going to see. And if that means more pain, more costs with suffering, So be it,” he said.

Mittal, however, expects India to benefit from these innings and get tremendous tailwinds if he plays his cards well. The major advantage of India, he said, is that it is “a continent of consumers endowed with its own markets, its own resources. More importantly, India is also a reliable source, and democracy of supply chains and There is a possibility of coming in open societies.

He said that “the era of globalization is over,” but India can take advantage of these changes by growing its semiconductor manufacturing business, strengthening its defense gear manufacturing capabilities, given the constraints posed by geopolitical tensions with China. In addition to, the war between Russia – Ukraine.

parag agrawal: Twitter to freeze hiring, rescind offers ahead of Elon Musk deal

Chriselle Lim and Love, Bonito Team on AAPI and Mental Health Initiative – WWD – Pen 18

Chrisley Lim and Love are joining forces to advocate for Bonito Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month.

Influential and Southeast Asia-based fashion brand AAPI is teaming up to support women and emphasizing the importance of mental health awareness within the community by advocating for better resources and health care. Lim and the fashion brand are donating $20,000 to the Asian Mental Health Project, which provides mental health resources to Asian American communities.

“It’s very stigmatized especially within [the Asian] culture when it comes to mental health and taking care of your mental health,” Lim said. “We’re actually the least likely ethnic group to get mental health help, even if we need it, so it’s like that.” There’s something I feel really strongly about and it’s merging all three of my worlds: fashion, mental health and AAPI Heritage Month.”

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, AAPI people have the lowest rate of seeking help of any ethnic group, with only 23.3 percent of adults seeking mental health treatment in 2019.

Lim also emphasized that the initiative is important given the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes amid the pandemic.

“Even pre-pandemic, the AAPI community was actually the ethnic group least likely to receive mental health treatment because of systemic barriers and stigma around therapy,” she continued. “It’s coupled with racism and discrimination related to COVID-19, I think” [for] Asian Americans – Asian American women in particular – It is now more important than ever that we take more actionable steps for ourselves not to be ashamed of what I think is stigmatized in our cultures.

With charity, Love, Bonito is launching a #LBWomenofAAPI content series featuring multiple Asian American women, including Joan Nguyen Tran, cofounder and CEO of child care brand Bumo, and Carrie, founder of the Asian Mental Health Project. Zhang included. , The women will talk openly about their mental health journey and talk about their Asian American identity in the content series. The series is also meant to give insight into AAPI culture and the Asian experience.

“Representation is really important,” Lim said of Love, Bonito’s involvement in the AAPI Heritage Month initiative. Love, this is exactly what Bonito is doing for the Asian community. There are a lot of people, like, ‘What is the Asian American experience?’ Because it’s not really talked about. In short, you’re never Asian enough because you’re not Asian enough, and you’re never American enough because you’re not physically ‘American-looking’, that is, white. So growing up as an Asian American, we’ve always been torn between two worlds trying to be Asian, but trying to be American at the same time. It has become our home, our middle ground and the centerpiece. This is how we have always lived. That’s how we live in the present and this is the Asian American experience.”

Oyo: Hotel and restaurant body urges Sebi to reject Oyo IPO citing irregularities

The Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) has asked the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to reject Oyo’s initial public offering (IPO), considering the company’s significant losses in the past years.

The federation statement said that, as per reports, Oyo suffered a loss of Rs. 3943.84 crore in FY20-21. This has caused a loss of more than Rs. 76,077 every minute, it said.

Oyo’s IPO delayed due to market volatilityETtech reported.

Oyo has been running short of money since its inception in 2013, and its total revenue fell 69% from Rs 13,413 crore in 2020 to Rs 4,157 crore in 2021.

FHRAI has cautioned that Oyo’s IPO will wipe out public money, enriching its founders and key management.

FHRAI had earlier raised concerns about significant inaccuracies and inadequate disclosures in Oyo’s draft red herring prospectus (DRHP).

It may have raised a lot of money to be known as one of India’s most promising start-ups. But it is.’ I haven’t done enough to efficiently manage the business on the ground, said Gurbakshish Singh Kohli, vice-president of FHRAI.

FHRAI had earlier filed a complaint with SEBI alleging OYO’s tax evasion. The Directorate General of GST Investigation (DGGI) has registered a case of GST/Service Tax evasion against OYO and its subsidiaries.

jadeja: Ravindra Jadeja ruled out of remainder of IPL, goes home with rib injury

India and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the rest of the IPL due to a rib injury, days after he stepped down as captain on Wednesday. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, “Ravindra Jadeja will miss the next two matches of CSK as he has a rib cage injury. He has already gone home.

Jadeja missed the match against Delhi Capitals due to an upper body injury which he suffered during the first match against RCB.

Jadeja, who captained CSK in the first eight matches, had a season worth forgetting as he managed just 116 runs in 10 matches at an average of 20 and took only five wickets at an economy rate of 7.51.

While the official reason for Jadeja’s unavailability is injury, sources tracking developments in the CSK camp claimed that the all-rounder has been dropped.

An IPL source said on the condition of anonymity, “There seems to be more to it. Jadeja has also unfollowed CSK on Instagram.

When the CSK CEO was asked about Jadeja’s decision to unfollow the franchise on social media, he did not want to read much into it.

“I have no clue about all these things like Instagram and Twitter and so I won’t be able to tell you much about these things,” the CEO said.

While Jadeja has lost six and won two in eight matches, the ‘Yellow Brigade’ have won three out of four games as Dhoni returned as the leader.

After Dhoni took back the captaincy from Jadeja, the roundabout claimed that the all-rounder was told during the previous season that he would be handed over the captaincy for the 2022 edition.

It was the typical Dhoni-style subtle message about the Saurashtra player not doing his homework.

At 33, Jadeja is a senior India star and a decorated artist in her own right. It appears that he was not given full charge when he was at the top, an indication of this was when he was seen fielding in the deep.

Those who have followed the CSK franchise over the years have observed that if a CSK player gets injured, he usually doesn’t make it to the field. Only those who are dropped sit in the dug-out. And for the record, Jadeja was in the dug-out.
