Singer KK Dies, Was Performing on Stage In Kolkata – Pen 18

Kolkata: Playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK passed away on Tuesday night in Kolkata. He was 53 years old. The singer died after falling ill while performing at an event at Nazrul Manch organized by Gurudas College in the city. After returning to his hotel, the singer complained of uneasiness following which he was taken to the hospital. nutrifresh: Agritech startup Nutrifresh raises $5 million funding from investors

New Delhi: Agritech startup Nutrifresh on Tuesday said it has raised $5 million (Rs 38.8 crore) from investors for expansion and growth. The company focuses on hydroponically grown, residue free and chemical free products.

Funding is led by Theodore Cleary, Archer Investments; Sandeep Bhamer, Managing Partner – Green Frontier Capital; Sky Kurtz, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Co-Founder of Pure Harvest UAE; Matthew Siriac, Florintry Advisors and former Managing Director of Blackstone India; Soumitra Dutta, Dean Elect – Said Business School, Oxford University; Shaishav Dharia, Regional Chief Executive Officer, CEO Lodha Group; Karan Goshar, Samarth Investment Advisors LLP, and others.

“The funding will be used to scale up agricultural operations, fully trace production and implement transparency, marketing and building an integrated farm-tech platform,” Nutrifresh said in a statement.

Sanket Mehta and Ganesh Nikam are the cofounders of Nutrifresh.

The entire production is handled from seed procurement, germination, nursery, harvesting, packaging, and finally delivery of the product to the end user. The product reaches the consumer within 24 hours of harvesting.

Cert-In warns users about mobile-based malware and methods employed to infect devices

New Delhi: The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (Certificate-In) on Monday issued an advisory, warning users about different types of mobile-based malware and the ways in which they infect devices.

The advisory warned that malware such as adware, cryptocurrency mining malware, remote access tools, mobile banking and short messaging service Trojans, mobile spyware and ransomware were active and users should ensure that they are protected from them.

Explaining the way these malware works, Cert In said that users should be aware of fake applications and websites that lure users by using legitimate company names or references.

“They may also push persistent ads, track and report location and other sensitive information, or allow users to subscribe to premium services,” Cert In said in its advisory.

To avoid falling victim to these malware and their methods, Cert In recommends that users keep their operating systems and apps up to date, use strong authentication, disable unnecessary network radios, install security software, and Always delete data before discarding.

Mobile Premier League to lay off 100 workers, exit Indonesia

Bangalore: Indian mobile esports and skill gaming platform Mobile League (MPL), which entered the unicorn club last September at a valuation of $2.3 billion, is laying off nearly 100 people amid a slowdown in the Indian startup ecosystem and exit from the Indonesian market. going out.

Swiggy in contention for Indian operations of German wholesale retailer Metro AG

New Delhi: Food and grocery delivery platform Swiggy has emerged as one of the potential contenders for German wholesale retailer Metro AG’s India operations, officials familiar with the matter said. At present, Thailand’s CP Group and Reliance Retail are the other two potential candidates for a possible acquisition of Metro Cash & Carry, he said.

“Swiggy has shown interest in the acquisition, and a potential deal would enable Metro Cash & Carry’s wholesale stores to feed on Swiggy’s Instamart delivery model,” said one of the executives. Instamart is Swiggy’s instant grocery delivery business. “The idea is to create a hub-and-spoke model where Metro stores will supply to Instamart stores, which can be delivery-only or can even be stores where the consumer can walk into.”

A Metro AG spokesperson told ET, “We do not comment on market speculation or rumours. Swiggy did not respond to questions.

Such a move would be aimed at furthering Swiggy’s ambition to move into e-commerce, expanding its business beyond core restaurant delivery, as well as accelerating Instamart’s growth, the people cited above.

“Metro’s store network and deep ties with FMCG players will give Swiggy significant sourcing muscle and an edge over rivals,” said one of them.

Swiggy recently suspended its subscription-based delivery service Super Daily in five cities citing losses.

Another executive aware of the growth said, “Accelerated commerce is the fastest way to accelerate the segment despite challenges like low margins and high delivery costs, and Swiggy is looking forward to a potential deal.” Rivals in this space such as Dunzo and BigBasket are backed by large corporates. CCI probe into Whatsapp’s anti-trust practices delayed as company holds back info

New Delhi: People with direct knowledge of the matter said the Competition Commission of India (CCI) has delayed its investigation into alleged anti-trust practices by WhatsApp as the instant messaging company was reluctant to provide information related to its new privacy policy.

The CCI began an investigation into WhatsApp’s new privacy policy in March 2021, but the company has neither supplied the requested documents nor responded to prima facie comments made by the CCI, the people cited above said.

The technology company is understood to have said the forum will not provide its views on the subject until Parliament passes a new data privacy law. Meanwhile, the social media platform has moved most of its Indian users to the new privacy policy on a ‘voluntary basis’.

However, the CCI is of the view that its investigation has nothing to do with data privacy aspects as the focus of the investigation is whether the instant messaging platform has tried to force its users to sign up for its new privacy policy. Has abused its market dominance position.

Under the new privacy policy, Whatsapp will be able to share its user data with third parties including its parent company Facebook. This is to help WhatsApp monetize user data and generate revenue.

Responding to ET’s queries, a WhatsApp spokesperson said, “No comment as the matter is sub-judice.” Emails sent to CCI did not elicit any response.

CCI has sent three notices to Whatsapp – two in March 2021 and one in June 2021. Whatsapp challenged the CCI’s powers to order an inquiry into its privacy policy in the Delhi High Court. The matter is presently under consideration.

A person with direct knowledge of the matter said, “WhatsApp sought a stay on these proceedings as an interim relief, which has not been granted by the court so far, so there is no stay on the investigation.”

“The company is still seeking an adjournment for the delay in providing the information sought by the CCI, which is critical to the progress of the investigation. In addition, they are going ahead and implementing the new privacy policy which is being investigated.”

According to the Delhi High Court website, WhatsApp was asked to respond to the court’s notice and give its views on the matter by July 2021, which was initially extended till August 27, 2021. Since then, the court has given four extensions to WhatsApp and the new deadline for filing replies is July 21, 2022.

Originally, WhatsApp’s updated privacy policy required users to accept it, failing which some key features of WhatsApp would stop working for them. The CCI alleged that WhatsApp is using its dominant position in the instant messaging market to force its users to accept the new privacy policy.

In July 2021, WhatsApp told a Delhi court that it would not force users to move to the updated privacy policy and that their features would not be downgraded if an existing user did not accept the terms of the new policy.

The series presents world-renowned chefs and renowned home chefs as they create recipes for onlookers with easy-to-prepare recipes in their own kitchens.

On the video, both Kors and Boulud are modeling a special edition Michael Kors World Food Program apron to show their support for the United Nations organization.

BookMyShow sees rush of users post-Covid wave with highest-ever ticket bookings

New Delhi: Online ticketing and entertainment platform BookMyShow on Friday said it is witnessing a rush of users with the easing of restrictions related to COVID-19 as it registered the highest number of ticket bookings of 2.9 crore on its platform in April this year. The company said that its Transaction Video on Demand (TVOD) streaming platform also recorded the highest number of transactions in April with sales of 52,000 crore streams.

BookMyShow Cinemas COO said, “BookMyShow achieved a remarkable milestone in April 2022, both in its flagship content pillar – cinema vertical and TVOD platform BookMyShow Stream – setting the tone for the Indian film entertainment industry. ” Ashish Saxena said in a statement.

In January 2020, Bookmyshow crossed 22 million ticket sales from its platform.

Between October 2020 and February 2021, it had an average monthly sales of over 20 million tickets, the highest in January 2021 of over 5 million.

Between October 2021 and March 2022, average monthly ticket sales reached 12 million, indicating a six-fold increase in consumption since the end of the first COVID wave.
