Kolkata: Playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK passed away on Tuesday night in Kolkata. He was 53 years old. The singer died after falling ill while performing at an event at Nazrul Manch organized by Gurudas College in the city. After returning to his hotel, the singer complained of uneasiness following which he was taken to the hospital. KK was born in Delhi and was also known for his electric live shows. His Instagram page was recently sharing updates from his concert in Kolkata eight hours ago. KK released his first album, Pal, in 1999. The singer-composer then focused more on Bollywood than his independent music, including Tadap Tadap (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, 1999), Dus Bahane (Dus, 2005), and Tune Mari Pravesh (Gunday, 2014). - According to reports, his wife and two sons will fly to Kolkata on Wednesday morning. KK reportedly performed at two back-to-back shows in Kolkata over the past two days.
- Condoling his demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Saddened by the untimely demise of renowned singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK. A wide range of emotions are reflected in his songs, which strike a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. peace.”
- Congress general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala condoled, saying, “Voice of versatility, of love, of yearning and longing, of melodious compositions, all gone in one. As we know, a great deal of music is gone. . Bye KK , Heartfelt condolences to the family and all the fans.”
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah condoled and said, “KK was a very talented and versatile singer. His untimely demise is very sad and a great loss to Indian music. With his brilliant voice, he has left an indelible mark on the minds of countless music lovers. My deepest condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti Shanti.”
- Condoling his demise, West Bengal Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Arup Biswas said, “Singer Anupam Roy called me and said that he was hearing something bad from the hospital. Then I contacted the hospital. He said he was brought dead. Then I went to the hospital.”
- Biswas told media persons that the body has been sent for post-mortem. “Their family members have been informed. They are likely to reach Kolkata on Wednesday morning.
- Singer Harshdeep Kaur has expressed grief over his death. “Just can’t believe our dear KK is no more. It really can’t be true. The voice of love is gone. It’s heartbreaking.”
- Actor Akshay Kumar wrote, “Extremely saddened and shocked to learn about the sad demise of KK. What a loss! Peace.”
- Filmmaker Srijit Mukherjee also took to Facebook and said, “In a state of total shock. They met for the first time only last month and it seemed that we have known each other for years. The chatter just won’t stop. And I was very impressed to see his love for Gulzar sahib. He said that he forayed into the film world with ‘Chhor Aaye Hum’ and sang it as a tribute to him. Farewell, my newest friend. will miss you. I wish we had more sessions on music and food and cinema.”
- Messages of tribute also came from across the border. Pakistani singer Shafqat Amanat Ali tweeted, “Can’t believe the horrible news I just heard! Singer KK is no more! This is shocking and very sad. Just doesn’t feel right. What a singer! May he rest in peace #KK”
- Bollywood music composer Pritam wrote, ‘Very shocked. Heard about KK. Please someone tell me this is not true.”
- Rapper Baba Sehgal wrote, “The voice I loved the most and my extraordinarily talented collaborator KK is no more. Absolute shocker. Rip my friend.”
- Condoling his death, actress Swastika Mukherjee said, “KK has passed away. I just can’t believe what I heard.”
- Singer Rahul Vaidya said he is “beyond shocked” by the news of KK’s death. He tweeted, ‘I have heard that singer KK has just passed away. God what is really happening!!?? I mean what is happening. One of the best human beings was KK sir. Gone too quickly at 53. Surprised beyond. RIP sir.”
- Cricketer Virender Sehwag also offered condolences to KK’s family. He wrote on Twitter, ‘Sad to hear about the passing of KK after falling ill while performing in Kolkata. Another reminder of how fragile life is. Condolences to his family and friends. peace.”
- Singer Papon Angraag also mourned his death and tweeted, “How uncertain life is! This is just too crazy for me to process! God give strength to the family! KK you will be missed a lot brother! You, your voice and your songs will always be with us.”
- Singer Mohit Chauhan also expressed grief over KK’s death and tweeted, ‘KK… not a fair man. You don’t have time to go. It was the last time we were together to announce a tour together. how can you go??? in shock. in sorrow. One ear dear friend, a brother is gone. RIP KK I love you.”
- R Madhavan reacted to KK’s death and said, “Heartbreaking! What is happening?”
- Ashok Pandit also condoled and said, “It is shocking and unbelievable. Famous singer KK is no more. He died of a heart attack while he was still performing in Kolkata. A huge loss to the Indian music industry. Heartfelt condolences to his family and close ones. peace!”
