conflict of interest: Potential conflict of interest: Nooyi to recuse herself from ICC media rights process

Indra Nooyi, the only female representative on the ICC’s board of directors, has decided to distance herself from the upcoming sale of her media rights process as she is also a board member of potential digital rights bidder Amazon.

The ICC’s TV and Digital rights bundle for the Indian subcontinent will be available for sale on August 22 with sealed tenders.

If there is a tie between the bidders, an e-auction will be conducted to decide the winner.

Some of the potential bidders include Star, Viacom18, Sony and Amazon.

Jeff Bezos-owned Amazon pulled out of the IPL media rights auction, with Star and Viacom winning record amounts of TV and digital rights respectively.

Nooyi, the former CEO-cum-chairman of global cola giant PepsiCo, is the ICC’s first independent director, and has decided to distance herself from the process to avoid allegations of potential conflict of interest.

Asked about Nooyi’s position throughout the process, an ICC spokesperson told PTI: “The announcement of Indra Nooyi’s appointment to the Amazon board came after the ICC took over the role.”

“Consequently, she has since recused herself from any discussion of the ICC Board on the ITT (Invitation to Tender) process. She is not involved in any capacity and will not be part of the final ICC Board’s decision on ITT.” ” The spokesperson added.

Nooyi, in addition to being on the Board of Directors, is also part of the ICC’s powerful Financial and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) Committee.

According to sources, Nooyi never violated the ICC constitution and rules on the issue of “conflict of interest”.

Clause 2.2.4.1 of the ICC Constitution states that “when a director, committee member or staff member has or may have a real, apparent or potential conflict of interest in connection with his duties to the ICC, he shall The officer must disclose a conflict of ethics without delay (and where possible prior to his election or appointment as a director, staff member or committee member), or if such conflict arises during the meeting, He should disclose the conflict to the concerned chairman of the meeting.
