meghalaya: World champion arm wrestler Margaret Pathaw gets Rs 5 lakh award from Meghalaya govt

The Meghalaya government has given five lakh rupees as a cash prize to Margaret Pathav, who won a gold medal at the 43rd World Arm Wrestling Championships in Turkey. He recently won the gold medal by defeating Santos Anna of Brazil in the 60 kg left hand category of the championships.

Along with Pathav, the state government also gave cash prizes of Rs 6.5 lakh to 10 other athletes representing the country and of repute in various international wrestling and bodybuilding competitions.

Congratulating them, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that winners are not made overnight, but success comes only through hard work and dedication.

“We are taking the right steps to nurture our athletes so that in the days to come, our athletes can compete in national and international competitions. With proper strategy and planning, we are confident that what we are investing in today ‘That will bear fruit in the coming days,’ Sangma said while addressing the event on Wednesday.

He said that the government has allocated Rs 500 crore for the development of sports infrastructure in the state.

The Chief Minister expressed hope that better sports facilities can be provided in the districts, sub-divisions and blocks across the state in future.
