The 23-year-old faced severe criticism after he missed a catch in a Super 4 match of the Asia Cup last month and some incidents have called him a “Khalistani”.
“The team environment is so nice that we don’t let outside noise in. We enjoy each other’s company, standing up for each other in bad times. It really helps,” says Arshdeep told the media in mixed territory. They registered a thrilling four-wicket win over Pakistan in their World Cup opening match here on Sunday.
Arshdeep removed Pakistan’s in-form openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to get India off to a great start.
Asked about the “challenges” of handling two high-pressure games in the span of two months, he said: “There is no such thing as a challenge if you enjoy your game.
“We are enjoying our cricket, and as I said the team environment is really good. We love our game so much and when it happens you enjoy the game and there is no challenge. ”
“Personally, I enjoy my game too. I try to be in the present whenever I get a chance.”
On the extra he put in to be mentally tough, he said: “I didn’t put on anything extra, I just try to keep everything simple. Mainly, I don’t think much.”
Opening the bowling with veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep trapped Babar for a golden duck and then in his next over he dismissed Rizwan to give him the opening pace.
Chasing 161, India played an unbeaten knock of 82 from Virat Kohli and took four wickets in the last ball.
“Both the teams are playing really well. As a youngster you really like it. It was a big field, you have to work hard. It challenges you physically and mentally and in you brings out the best,” he concluded. PTI KHS/TAP TAP BS BS
