south africa: Undefeated South Africa hand champions England third straight World Cup loss

England’s title defense in the Women’s World Cup suffered another blow on Monday when South Africa chased down a thrilling three-wicket haul in the last over to give them their third defeat in as many matches.

The veteran Marijne Cup took the first five wickets to help restrict the 2017 champions to 235 for nine after South Africa put their opponents to bat at Mount Maunganui.

The 32-year-old returned to the crease with the bat and contributed with a crucial 32 off 42 balls as South Africa chased down their target with four balls to spare to register their third successive win.

Opener Laura Wolvaardt lived a lucrative life and missed several chances to top score for South Africa with 77 runs, with Kapp taking the side closer to victory.

England captain Heather Knight said in the presentation, “It is very painful to lose three close games in a row.”

“I think a lot of times we shot ourselves in the foot with the fielding, batsmen like Wolvaardt, you can’t give her that many opportunities or she’ll pay you.

“We are very impressed with the situation, it is not because of lack of effort or lack of corruption. We have to believe that we have a small chance of making it.”

England, who had previously lost to Australia and West Indies in their first two matches, still have a mathematical chance of reaching the semi-finals but will need other results in their favour.

Their next match will be against India at the same ground on Wednesday.

The win moved South Africa to second place in the table behind Australia, who will take on hosts New Zealand on Thursday.

“Every day she walks on the field and shows her class and I think she is an inspiration to many young girls and boys,” South Africa captain Sune Luss said, referring to the Cup’s all-round performance.

India thrash Sri Lanka in second Test, keep the unbeaten streak going

The moment of the series for Sri Lanka was also not one of their builds.

Jasprit Bumrah, after blasting Suranga Lakmal for a knock on the stumps, kept running down the pitch and stopped the late batsman, placing a hand around him and hugging him. Moments later, the entire Indian team had reached Lakmal and congratulated him for a good career.

Lakmal, who played 69 Tests for 170 wickets, announced that this will be his last series against India as he has agreed to join Derbyshire in English county cricket.

The Indian team’s gesture had an immediate effect: the entire crowd at the Chinnaswamy Stadium stood on their feet, giving Lakmal a standing ovation. Players often suggest that they have the wrong burden of being role models, especially with their on-field behavior, but here in a heartbeat there was evidence of how much of an impact they had on those watching the team.

The last day of the series was also Sri Lanka’s best. Kusal Mendis, who returned to the Test team after being banned for a bio-bubble breach, was at No. The compact right-handed batsman was once touted as the next big thing, but he has struggled to establish himself as a player who can consistently make a difference after 47 Tests.

That day, Mendis took a positive approach from the word go, and it helped a lot as the usually stable Dimuth Karunaratne was a touch unsteady. The pitch was still working enough for the spinners, with the variable bounce as well as the turn made it difficult for the batsmen to control their shots.

And yet, Mendis played a variety of shots from hard sweeps to lobs to cover drives at midwicket, but as he was in good shape, he charged Ashwin for 54, and was beaten with the ball . Cleverly away from the angle to be stumped.

If Mendis was the half-bright spot for Sri Lanka, Karunaratne went full hog, scoring a skillful century on a tough pitch against a varied, high-quality attack. But even these two positive players did not miss out on a 238-run loss and a 2-0 clean sweep.

Sri Lanka have never won a Test match in India, but this is probably the first time they have toured and haven’t even looked to challenge India. All they can think of as a straw is that this is still a relatively young team, and players are growing in their roles and trying to level up the team. On the other hand, he is not short of experience, and had more Test caps among them than the Indian team, especially after the exclusion of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. This shows that the players being invested in are not the fastest learners, making it difficult for the coaching staff and the captain.

To understand this better, look at the evolution of the player of the series Rishabh Pant over a short period. When he entered the international scene, he had talent, big shots and fearlessness. But, to this he has added patience, better shot selection and situational awareness, making him one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world on any surface.

What is even more gratifying is that Pant has gone from simple to brilliant behind the stumps. This can only happen with hard work.

Sri Lanka will hope that the players they have invested in can make a similar effort, and take their game to the next level, at the earliest.

short score

India 252 (Iyer 92; Jayavikrama 3/81, Embuldeniya 3/94) and 303/9 Dec. (Iyer 67, Pant 50; Jayavikrama 4/78) beat Sri Lanka by 238 runs 109 (Matthews 43; Bumrah 5/24) and 208 (Karunaratne 107, Mendis 54; Ashwin 4/55, Bumrah 3/23)

Zadrian Smith on Styling Ariana DeBose and More at BAFTAs, Critics’ Choice – WWD – Pen 18

Zadrian Smith and Sarah Edmiston styled 10 celebrities for the Critics’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles and the BAFTAs in London on Sunday.

Two fashion stylists and their global team of 15 members were able to tackle the feat with relative ease, styling double winner Ariana DeBos, Critics’ Choice host Ty Diggs, and newcomers Kasi Walfall and Coral Pea. Array of extraordinary looks.

“It’s logistics because, obviously, when you have so many customers, you have to make sure there’s no clash of designers and you’re not overlapping,” Smith explained over the phone. “First and foremost, it’s about listening to customers. These are huge moments for our customers and we thought about what designers have supported us and are working on, what designers do in an organic and natural way. We are promoting diversity and inclusivity. They are always going to be our first call.”

For Sunday night, Smith was stationed in Los Angeles to work with clients attending the Critics’ Choice Awards, while Edmiston was in London for the BAFTAs. He explained that each customer had a dedicated member of his team during the preparation, while he and the admins also checked on the customers.

The fashion stylists continue their styling ethos of being true to each and every client when it comes to their styling. For Debos, who has won nearly every award nominated so far this awards season for her breakout role as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story,” stylists wanted to pay tribute to her character and the actress’ Latin roots. Two yellow gowns by Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera.

“The scene I remember in a movie theater where people were shouting and clapping is the song ‘America’, then [DeBose] The yellow and red dress is on,” Smith said. “The dress says a lot about just wanting to come to America and leave my home for a better life and having all these thoughts about what America was going to be like, but is it really? is very nuanced and multifaceted and I think fashion can tell a story very powerfully. The yellow color of the dress is hope and optimism, striving for something better and it’s joy, but then you see the red and, my For, it is representative of the difficulty, what you have to do to find that joy and optimism.

DeBose personally wore a custom yellow chiffon Oscar de la Renta gown at the 2022 BAFTAs that featured a large red flower at the hip. She then changed into a Carolina Herrera yellow taffeta column gown from the designer label’s Fall 2022 ready-to-wear collection for the 2022 Critics’ Choice Awards, which she attended at the London Satellite.

“Oscar de la Renta dress with red floral motifs and yellow chiffon,” Smith continued, “the softness and how airy it was and then you go to the Carolina Herrera dress, which was a stiffer taffeta fabric and was more statuesque. I Thought it was a beautiful combination of the two gowns and represented two versions of Ariana paying homage to Anita.

Smith and Edmiston were also responsible for Wallfall’s red carpet debut, playing the titular character in Ava DuVernay’s new series, “Naomi,” and Pea, who starred in Apple TV+’s “For All Mankind” at the Critics’ Choice Awards. We do. Walfall stunned in a playful Chanel tweed fringe couture dress, while Pea wore a black Solace London dress with puff sleeves.

Regarding Wallfall’s look, Smith said: “Sometimes you see these young stars and the outfit they’re wearing or it’s too mature. I don’t want to talk too much fanfare, but I think the pictures of Kasey Watching, she feels organically and authentically a 17-year-old teenager who is on the cusp of a great career.”

Also for the BAFTAs, Smith and Edmiston styled “Dune” actress Sharon Duncan-Brewster in custom Versace printed form by 2021 BAFTA EE Rising Star Award recipients Buckeye Buckeye and Ozwald Boateng.

When it comes to their male clients, Smith and Edmiston continue last year’s red carpet trend of men’s high-fashion dressing with their client Max Harwood, who attended the BAFTAs as a presenter and appeared in his film To represent “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie”. Stylists turned to Moschino for the actor, dressing him in a soft metallic green suit with a silver peacock brooch.

“For me, it was the peacock brooch because anyone who knows about menswear knows that there is a whole study on male peacocks,” Smith explained. “The male peacock wants to show off or is dandy, so for me it matches our peacock. I thought the brooch brought everything together in this wonderful way.”

To host the digs, stylists went with two looks, a deep purple, velvet Giorgio Armani tuxedo for the red carpet, and then a black wool tuxedo from Berluti for the show.

“Tai is very old school from the 1940s and 1950s, Hollywood’s leading man,” Smith said. “We always find a way to do this, so it’s fabrication and silk lapel. We always think about those things when we’re working with Tye.”

While the stylists had a huge undertaking for Sunday’s awards show, it was important for them and their team to make the most of these moments and help their clients achieve the look and messages they strive for. Was doing.

“We are really shifting the narrative for these people,” concluded Smith. “For me, it’s not about being on the best dressed list—it’s cool, but it’s about those human moments where you can see that you’ve transcended the garment and you’ve lost someone’s soul.” and touched my heart.”
