bjp: BJP to hold booth-level analysis of slim margin seats won or lost in Uttar Pradesh

Despite its resounding victory in the recent assembly elections, the BJP is likely to do a booth-level analysis of seats in Uttar Pradesh where the party lost or won by a small margin after the government-formation exercise is over and the MLC elections are over.

Senior party functionaries told ET that based on the analysis, the timeline for which is yet to be decided, the party may go for organizational change in the state unit.

Party’s state vice-president Vijay Bahadur Pathak told ET, “Earlier also the seats where we lost or won or lost, special attention was given to them and we will continue to practice for the present results as well.”

He said the exercise helped the party win 26 of the 72 seats it lost in 2017 this time.

In the recently concluded elections, 18 BJP candidates lost by less than 5,000 votes and six of them by less than 1,000 votes.

Another senior party functionary said, “At present the focus is on government formation, but once we contest the elections, we will analyze the booth-wise results.” “We don’t act like the Congress, which has toppled all its state presidents… In a way, they had to take responsibility for their defeat. We work at the booth level to uncover the reasons for the defeat, fix accountability and bring about organizational change. Will go on, if necessary,” he said.

The party’s performance has been particularly weak in Purvanchal, where the BJP and its allies won 80 out of 107 seats in 2017. This time the number has come down to 63.

In fact, along the Purvanchal Expressway, which was being projected as an example of the BJP’s development model in backward eastern UP, the rival Samajwadi Party and its allies built four of the highway’s eight districts, Ambedkarnagar, Ghazipur, Mau. drained off. And Azamgarh lost only one seat in Mau.

The SP is also planning to conduct a constituency level analysis of the results soon where feedback from grassroot level workers will be sought. ,
