Anti-ship version of BrahMos missile successfully test-fired

An anti-ship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired jointly by the Indian Navy and the Andaman and Nicobar Command.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command said in a tweet that the test was conducted on Wednesday.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command is the only tri-service command of the Indian Armed Forces.

“#IndianNavy and #ANC again demonstrated #CombatReadiness by successfully destroying targets at sea via the #AntiShip version of #BrahMos in the A&N Islands on 27th April,” it said.

On 19 April, the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully test-fired the BrahMos missile from a Sukhoi fighter jet on the eastern seaboard.

Last month, the Indian Navy successfully test-fired an improved version of the BrahMos missile from a stealth destroyer in the Indian Ocean.

BrahMos Aerospace, an India-Russia joint venture, produces supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land platforms.

The BrahMos missile flies at a speed of Mach 2.8 or nearly three times the speed of sound.

The range of the upgraded version of the missile has been increased to around 350 km from the original 290 km.
