The Congress on Saturday urged Chief Justice of India NV Ramana to invoke constitutional provisions to prevent central investigative agencies from acting as “puppets” of the ruling establishment, a day after the CJI said the CBI’s “action” and inaction” had raised questions about its credibility. ,

Ramana, while delivering a lecture on ‘Democracy: Role and Responsibilities of Investigating Agencies’ on the foundation day of CBI on Friday, had also called for bringing central investigating agencies under an independent umbrella body.

The Congress leadership said the CJI and other judges of the Supreme Court should go beyond strong words to act.

“The truth which the CJI must understand, and it is for every citizen to see, is that the CBI, ED (Enforcement Directorate) and Income Tax (Department) are puppets of the BJP and (Narendra) Modi government. AICC spokesperson Randeep Surjewala alleged Accusing the central agencies of acting at the behest of the ruling establishment, Surjewala alleged, now that Modi ji and BJP go to contest elections, the first to come is the CBI, ED and IT.
