Sunrisers Hyderabad Vs Chennai Super Kings: Sunrisers get on the board

Abhishek Sharma hit his maiden half-century in the Indian Premier League on Saturday as Sunrisers Hyderabad thrashed Chennai Super Kings for their fourth consecutive defeat this season.

Chasing 155 for victory, Hyderabad chased down their target with 14 balls and 8 wickets in Mumbai on an opening stand of 89 runs between Abhishek (75) and captain Kane Williamson (32).

21-year-old left-handed batsman Abhishek, who plays for Punjab in domestic cricket, hit three sixes in his 50-ball knock before falling to Dwayne Bravo.

Rahul Tripathi scored an unbeaten 15-ball 39 to give 2016 winners Hyderabad their maiden victory in the third attempt of this edition’s Twenty20 tournament.

But this is only the second time that four-time champions Chennai, under new captain Ravindra Jadeja, have lost four matches in a row in the IPL – the second instance came in 2010.

“Not getting the start (that) we were looking for, 20-25 (runs) less,” said skipper Ravindra Jadeja. “Will try to improve both the departments.

We are all professional cricketers, we have to work hard on our game, stick together and try to come back.”

C Mehndi’s England all-rounder Moeen Ali made 48 off 35 balls and after batting first took Chennai to 154 for 7.

Spinner Washington Sundar and left-arm pacer T Natarajan took two wickets each and checked the contrasting scoring with their disciplined bowling.

Moin and Ambati Rayudu (27) shared a 62-run stand for the third wicket as Jadeja scored 23 runs in 15 balls to increase the total. Moeen faced Hyderabad bowlers including pacer Umran Malik, who hit the fastest ball of the season – at 153.1 kmph – but conceded 29 runs in his three overs.
