ather energy: Ather says fire incident a rare occurrence, to increase pre-checks for accident cases

Bangalore: Electric scooter maker Ather Energy said the fire at its Experience store in Chennai on Friday was an “extremely rare” incident and was caused by an accident.

“A vehicle had an accident and was brought to the service center by the customer. Since there was a lot of dust and mud on the vehicle, a high pressure water wash was performed to ensure smooth service of the vehicle. However, while removing the company “Our teams discovered a crack in a particular spot of the top cover of the battery pack, possibly due to an accident,” said in a statement.

This crack exposed the battery cells to water, causing thermal runaway. As soon as the company’s team realized the ingress of water in the battery pack, the vehicle was moved to a safe location.

The company said that there were no casualties or casualties in the incident.

“This phenomenon is extremely rare in nature and is the first time we have observed it in a 150 million kilometer ride,” the company said.

“As an added safety measure, we are increasing the number of pre-tests for accident cases to avoid similar situations in the future.”
