Markarian designer Alexandra O’Neill brought a garden party to the Houdini estate on Wednesday night, hosting drinks and dinner for friends from Los Angeles to celebrate her new collaboration with Somersalt on swimming and loungewear.
Photo ops abound at the popular Laurel Canyon venue for weddings, where Markarian-dressed women like Renee Qualley, Hilary Rhoda, Olivia Scott Welch, Maddie Hassan and more sat at lilac-decorated dinner tables, under flower arches, There were vintage crystals holding champagne coupes and more in the form of sunsets.
O’Neill was walking around an artfully displayed rack of pieces from the collaboration, featuring powder blue flowers inspired by 18th-century Italian reliefs, including Somersault’s trademark side stroke swimsuit, a ruffled side-tie One-piece, a bikini, and breezy poplin. loungewear
“We’ve been following him ever since [she dressed] Jill Biden when she skyrocketed,” said Somersalt cofounder Reshma Chamberlin of how the D-to-C swimwear brand headquartered in St. Louis teamed up with a New York-based luxury label. “If I had to remarry, I would Markarian wears.”
The collaboration strategy has worked well for Somersalt, who has also worked with Tanya Taylor, and is known for her well-fitting swimwear, made from research from over 10,000 body scans.
“What I love is that we’re wearing a different demographic every time, but still remain true to who we are,” Chamberlin said.
The lineup would be perfect for the Italian Riviera, where many guests are planning vacations this summer, including O’Neill.
“I’ll be in Rome in a heartbeat,” she said, admitting that she’d love to meet an Italian boyfriend while she was in Ponza this summer.
Stylist Jessica Pastor, who brought her pooch as a date, helped her scroll through potential matches on her phone between courses.
The stylist set ensued, which also included Britt Elkin, who dressed Emma Roberts at Markerion in 2019 before the designer had a website.
Rebecca Ramsey was remembering that when she first met SomerSalt’s co-founders while shooting an ad, she asked them what their dream collaboration would be, and they said Markarian.
