Neeraj Chopra betters his Olympics Gold medal-winning throw to script new national record

Neeraj Chopra set another national record by throwing 89.03m at the Pavo Nurmi Games today. In the process, he bettered his own record of 87.58m during the Tokyo Olympics, earning him a gold medal.

Notably, the Indian javelin superstar had not competed since winning his historic gold medal at Tokyo 2020.

The Pavo Nurmi Games, a gold event in the World Athletics Continental Tour, are one of the largest track-and-field competitions outside the Diamond League and this year’s event had a super stacked field.

Chopra, the only Indian to participate in the Paavo Nurmi Games, will participate in the next World Athletics Championships and Commonwealth Games.

Neeraj Chopra will also participate in the Kuorten Games in Finland before traveling to Sweden for the Stockholm leg of the Diamond League.
