Olivia DeJonge’s ‘Elvis’ Press Tour Fashion: Stylist Interview – WWD – Pen 18

With the upcoming “Elvis” movie premieres and press events taking place around the world, actress Olivia DeJong is making the case that she’s a red carpet style star to watch.

The 24-year-old Australian actress, who plays Priscilla Presley in the Baz Luhrmann-directed film, has walked the film on every red carpet spanning events at the Cannes Film Festival for Sunday night’s premiere in Sydney.

DeJonge is working with fashion stylist Chloe Hartstein for the “Elvis” press tour. DeJonge has dressed the actress in extravagant looks from designer brands including Gucci, Prada and Versace.

“What I love about Olivia is that she has a really good sense of her body in fitting in, which isn’t always the case,” Hartstein told WWD. “She really knows how things should fit her — she’s comfortable when it comes to her. It’s great to dress her because she has so much range. She feels really good in sewing and suits, but She also feels great in a bodycon dress. She’s not afraid to play within that range.”

Last month came the first look at DeJong and Hartstein working together at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where “Elvis” hosted its first premiere. DeJonge walked the red carpet wearing a seafoam-stained plunge neck chiffon gown that was accented with Gucci’s organza ruffles.

Hartstein said she and Djong had several looks between choosing for the premiere, but given the sheer importance of the Cannes Film Festival and the iconic setting, decided on a Gucci gown for its dramatic effect.

“For big occasions like Cannes, it’s a special red carpet in the sense that it’s really the only opportunity you have as a stylist and an actress or actor to really take that position,” she said. “For women, it’s the perfect place to wear a red carpet period, because of the stairs and lighting. Everything is the perfect combination for a major moment.”

DeJong’s Cannes Gucci gown was one of several looks that Hartstein said gave Priscilla Presley a subtle look, as stylists said the dress color was similar to those Presley had when she married the late musician. DeJonge has also styled her hair just like Presley and sported some rock n’ roll-inspired looks to pay homage to the figure.

“Priscilla has such a style legacy and Olivia and I have a lot of respect for her,” she said. “We don’t want to refer to it in an obvious way, so it’s about being subtle in these situations and finding the right piece to context, so I’d say it’s not overkill.”

While DeJonge’s Cannes Gucci gown was perhaps her most memorable, the actress has sported several other standout red carpet looks over the past few weeks such as a black Versace corset-like dress at a screening in London, a silk draped Jonathan Simkhai dress in London A pale pink silky organza Prada gown at the premiere and Sunday premiere in Sydney.

With the North America leg of the “Elvis” press tour set for the next few weeks — the film officially hitting theaters on June 24 — Hartstein explained that he’s continuing his strategy of paying tribute to Priscilla Presley in a subtle way. going to continue to keep. DeJonge’s range with your style.

“Creating these looks for big movies and big press tours, it’s really about creating a narrative and connecting the dots between the looks,” she said. “I think people looking at the red carpet images can understand what we’re going through and understand the story.”
