Stéphane Rowland took to the stage to pay tribute to the late French singer Barbara. The couturier held her fashion performances at the Théâtre du Châtelet, a favorite haunt of the iconic Chantes, especially between 1993 and 1997, and the last venue where she performed before passing away 25 years earlier.
“I didn’t choose Barbara, she chose me,” said the designer. “Barbara has been in my life since I was born, when I first heard her voice.”
Comedian Valerie Lemercier told viewers that she and the singer shared a taste for couture, long trips, black licorice and sunglasses.
“What I wanted is to convey a sensibility, style, vibe and charm through a collection that is not Barbara’s true image – that was not the goal, because otherwise I would have collected black jumpsuits,” Rowland continued . “It was to change [fashion] In a symbol and a different expression of art. ,
He was successful in creating bold silhouettes using contrasting materials and 3D, sculptural elements. Colorways include red, black, white and beige.
The long bomber dress in padded white Duchess satin had a flowing train and a cape-like top seconding the hood. It was paired with a pointed top embroidered with crystals in a “tattoo” motif. A long, strapless red “bathing-suit dress” of jersey and chiffon was embellished with red gajar balloons and flowing on one arm. The straight wool-crepe sweater dress, below the floor, had an open back and “Masai” embroidery in white stitching.
“I put it in a very French style [an] The African twist is the perfect way to make it spicy, interesting, sexy, with an African vibe,” Rowland said. “I think Barbara would have liked what I did.”
Maybe he would have liked the dramatic ending too. When the curtain went up, it was revealed that the attendees were seated at the back of the stage, making them – and the models – stars.
