The ODIs will be bilateral matches but will mostly be a three-match series.
A block-a-block calendar is expected in India, but as always there will be no bilateral cricket series with Pakistan due to obvious political reasons.
The 12 members in the 2023-2027 FTP cycle will play a total of 777 international matches – 173 Tests, 281 ODIs and 323 T20Is – compared to 694 currently.
This includes the next two cycles of the ICC Men’s World Test Championship, several ICC events and several bilateral as well as tri-series action.
As far as India’s schedule is concerned, the traditional India vs Australia Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which used to be a four-match affair for a long time, will become a five-Test series.
India will be playing a five-Test series against both England and Australia and on the T20 front too, there are plenty of five-match series with premium advertising rates for short-form matches as broadcasters expect.
During the next FTP cycle, India will travel to the West Indies (July-August 2023) for a full tri-format series including 2 Tests, ODIs and 3 T20Is.
The marquee home series of five Test matches against England will be temporarily held between January-March in 2024.
While Australia tour India early next year to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in a four-Test series, India’s next major tour is in December–January, 2024–25, when they take on Australia in five matches. Will play Test series for the first time since 1991.
In this cycle, India will host Bangladesh for a two-Test series in September 2024.
India will face 27 ODIs ahead of the 23 ODI World Cup starting with the Zimbabwe series.
The Indian team will play 27 ODIs before playing in the 2023 50-over World Cup to be held in India in October-November next year.
India’s 27-match ODI series starts on Thursday against Zimbabwe in Harare. Part of the 27 ODIs is from the previous FTP cycle which includes a home three-match series against South Africa and a three-match series against New Zealand just after the T20 World Cup.
Australia and England are to play 40 and 43 Tests respectively
Australia and England will play 40 and 43 Test matches respectively during the same five-year phase, a few games more than India.
Inaugural World Test champions New Zealand have 32 Tests scheduled in the next cycle, while South Africa play only 29 Tests in the same period. They mostly play two and some three test match series.
Between May ’23-April’ 27, Pakistan has only 27 Tests, while Sri Lanka and West Indies play the 25 longest format games respectively.
