Olivia Newton-John has died at the age of 73.
It was confirmed that the Australian actress and singer passed away on Monday Instagram accountwith a post by her husband John Easterling: “Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully this morning at her ranch in Southern California, surrounded by family and friends. We request all Please respect the privacy of the family during this difficult time.”
The post said: “Olivia has been a symbol of victory and hope for over 30 years, sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering with plant medicine with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund Anubhav continues, which is dedicated to research on plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the @onjfoundation in his memory.”
This was the actress’s third time battling breast cancer after she was initially diagnosed in the early ’90s.
Newton-John had a number of career milestones since coming into the limelight in the early ’70s. He had several hit songs including “Physical” and “Have You Never Been Mello”, as well as roles in films such as “Xanadu” and “Two of a Kind”.
However, her biggest and most recognized role was in the 1978 hit musical film, “Grease”, in which she starred opposite John Travolta. As Sandy, Newton-John sang hits that would become a hallmark of her career, such as “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” and duets with Travolta such as “Summer Nights” and “You’re the One That I Want.”
Travolta talks about the death of Newton-John instagramsharing a photo of the late singer with the caption: “My dear Olivia, you’ve made our whole lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We’ll see you on the road and all of us.” Will be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”
