Asif Ali needed 34 runs in the 18th over of the match on Sunday and tried to sweep Ravi Bishnoi and it looked like he would return to the pavilion. However, Singh missed a straight chance and Ali survived to turn the game back in Pakistan’s favour. After this he received a lot of criticism from the netizens.
Kohli later defended the young pacer, saying that one could have made such a mistake during a high-pressure game.
“Anyone can make a mistake, the situation was tight. It was a high-pressure game and mistakes can happen. I still remember playing my first Champions Trophy and the match was against Pakistan, I played against Shahid. Very bad shot played. Afridi. I was looking at the ceiling till 5 in the morning, I couldn’t sleep and thought my career was over but these things are natural.”
“Senior players become around you, there is a good team atmosphere right now, I give credit to the captain and the coach. Players learn from their mistakes. So one must admit one’s mistake, address it and that’s it. One must be ready to be under pressure. The situation once again,” Kohli said.
India will now take on Sri Lanka in their next match on 6 September.
