I am innocent: Nepal cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane on rape charges

Nepal’s national cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane issued a statement today on the rape allegations against him. Lamichhane said in a Twitter post that he is innocent and is ready to face the charges.

“I am innocent and have full faith in the respectable laws of Nepal. I have decided to take leave from CPL and return to my country within a few days. His statement came a day after a Nepal court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant for national cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane after a 17-year-old girl alleged that he raped her in a hotel room in Kathmandu. did.

According to the case registered at Police Circle Gaushala here on Tuesday, 22-year-old Lamichhane allegedly took the girl to various places in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur on August 21 and raped her at a hotel in Kathmandu on the same night.

The Kathmandu district court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against Laimchane.

The police have said that they are probing the matter and collecting evidence, including CCTV footage, regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) said in a statement that it has suspended Lamichhane from the team to help investigate the allegations against him.

Lamichhane is currently playing in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). His first international success came when he became the first cricketer from Nepal to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL), when he made his debut for the Delhi Capitals franchise in 2018.

He has recently been appointed as the captain of the Nepal national cricket team.

During a telephone conversation with CAN officials, Lamichhane denied the allegations, saying he was innocent, a media report here quoted CAN officials as saying.

He said that he would return to Nepal after the league.
