‘Bridgerton,’ ‘The Gilded Age’ Inspire Fashion Trend – WWD – Pen 18

Regencycore fashion trends have been on the rise since the first season of Netflix’s “Bridgeton,” which aired in December 2020, wowed viewers with its fanciful and lavish costumes.

The hit TV show recently returned with its second season, which again provided new Regency-era costumes that are influencing spring 2022 fashion trends. The costumes in “Bridgeton” were introduced in HBO’s new series “The Gilded Age”, which debuted in January and focused on “old money” versus “new money” in high society New York City in the late 1800s.

According to a report by fashion discovery platform Shop Style, both the TV shows have sparked interest in Regencycore fashion and apparel that became popular during the Regency era.

Most notably, the baby-doll dresses seen on the characters in “Bridgeton” proved to be one of the most influential on current fashion trends. The report shows that searches for “babydoll dress” increased by 48 percent, while “empire waist dress” increased by 36 percent, “puff sleeve dress” by 31 percent and “cotton poplin dress” by 29 percent. Additionally, the platform saw an 18 percent increase in searches for “corset.”

For accessories, ShopStyle saw a 67 percent increase in searches for “opera gloves,” a 37 percent increase in “headbands,” a 26 percent increase in “pearl earrings,” and a 20 percent increase in “ballet flats.” .

While “Bridgeton” and “The Gilded Age” take place in the Regency era, both shows take a different approach to costumes. “Bridgeton” leans into fanciful and fantasy costumes, with characters regularly wearing brightly colored clothing embellished with pearls, gems, and flowers. “The Gilded Age” and its “old money” characters dress lavishly but are not flashy with their embellishments and accessories.

Regencycore fashion has already popped up in several spring 2022 designer collections, including Markarian, Zimmermann, LoveshackFancy, Badgley Miska and others.

Opposition ‘should show concern’ for rights of victims too, says Amit Shah

Allaying apprehensions of the opposition in Lok Sabha about human rights violations due to possible misuse of the Bill, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Criminal Procedure (Identity) Bill will protect the rights of victims and law-abiding citizens.

“Those who are referring to human rights should also think about the human rights of rape victims. They (opposition) are only concerned about rapists and robbers. What about the human rights of the person who has been robbed?” Shah said.

“This bill has been brought to protect the law abiding citizens. Don’t try to portray it otherwise. In 2014, PM Narendra Modi put forward the concept of smart policing. Where T stands for Technology. UAPA amendment was brought by Chidambaram, we supported it. How has UAPA been misused? POTA was a law, it was repealed for appeasement,” the home minister said, adding that the whole world is using the database. “Why are you afraid of it? How long will we live under British rule? We should use it to solve today’s problems.”

Referring to the concerns of some opposition members over the misuse of data collected under the proposed law, Shah said the world is using the database and “we have to use it too”. “The database is being used for over two-and-a-half years to solve crimes including automobile thefts. The data will be stored in a protected hardware and “those who send samples (for matching) will be sent the results and the data will not be shared,” Shah said.

After discussion, the bill was passed by voice vote. The bill enables authorities to collect biometric details of prisoners.

The bill proposes to allow police to collect fingerprints, palm prints, footprints, photographs, iris and retina scans, physical and biological samples. It will also ensure that police and investigators stay two steps ahead of criminals, Shah urged the opposition not to have any apprehensions about the draft law.
