ganguly: Rohit is a bit laid back: Ganguly

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday said Rohit Sharma is “a bit calm” when it comes to captaincy and wants the Mumbaikar to get enough time to deliver results. Amid concerns over workload management, COVID and injury, India has seen seven captains lead the side at various stages ever since the 35-year-old Rohit took over from Virat Kohli full-time across formats.

Ganguly was impressed with Rohit, who has won a record five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles for Mumbai Indians, and said that he should be given a long rope before comparing him with the likes of great MS Dhoni and Kohli.

Ganguly said during the Bengal Peerless event on ‘Leadership in Modern India’ here, “Rohit Sharma is obviously a bit of a nerd who takes things in a very calm and cautious way, not someone who is in your face all the time. ”

The former captain was responding to a question about the Indian leaders’ crop as he skipped it.

“India has produced some great captains over the years. MS Dhoni who handled the transition fantastically, and continues to garner praise not only for India but for his franchise (Chennai Super Kings).

“then came

Kohli’s record is also excellent. He was a different kind of captain, he did things differently.

He said, ‘Every person is different but what matters is the result and how many wins and losses you have. I don’t compare captains, everyone has their own way of leading.

“We give responsibility to someone, then we want him to do things the way we want him to, and I think that’s not right. When you give captaincy to someone, he has a little time to deliver results. Give, and then see what happens.”

Going back to the 2003 World Cup final against Australia, Ganguly’s decision to bowl may have received little criticism as the Ricky Ponting-led side played with the Indian attack with a massive 359/2.

Australia won by a huge margin of 125 runs on their way to their second win in a row.

Ganguly said that there is no regret over the decision.

“I don’t look back. I was disappointed that I lost the final but I don’t think the toss was the reason for losing the final. We didn’t play well,” he said.

When asked to comment on FIFA’s ban on Indian football, he said: “I don’t deal with football so I won’t be able to answer that question. But I think every sports body has a system, every sports body We have our own rules and regulations. In BCCI also we have rules and protocols.

“Not buying any sports teams”, clarifies Elon Musk after Manchester United purchase tweet

New Delhi: Tesla Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk on Wednesday clarified that he is not buying Premier League football club Manchester United.

This comes as Musk tweeted earlier today regarding the purchase of the coveted football club.

“To be clear, I support the left half of the Republican Party and the right half of the Democratic Party,” he tweeted. And shortly after this tweet he said, “Also, I’m buying Manchester United Welcome.”

One may never know how serious Musk is when it comes to his tweets but the hint of the news got Manchester United fans buzzing.

When a user asked him if he was serious about his intention to buy the club, Musk replied, “No, that’s a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams.”

In another reply to the user, however, Musk said that if he had to buy a team, it would be Manchester United as it used to be his favorite team as a kid.

“However, if it were a team, it would be Man U. They were my favorite team as a kid,” he said.

Notably, these tweets come as ‘The Red Devils’, as the club is known among its fans, have made a terrific start to their Premier League 2022-23 campaign. They have lost their first two games and are currently ranked 20th and last in the points table.

They lost their first game 1–2 to Brighton & Hove Albion. United followed it up with an embarrassing 4–0 loss to Brentford. Manchester United will next face Liverpool on 22 August.

Manchester United fans are already demanding an exit from the current American bosses Glazer family due to the club’s poor performance in recent years. Their last Premier League trophy win was in the 2012–13 season. Since then, the club has failed to dominate the prestigious English football tournament as it used to.

Musk’s tweet, which was published not too long ago, has received an overwhelming response.

One Twitter user asked, “Do you really think he wants to buy? Or just bullshit.”

Referring to the Tesla CEO’s legal battle on Twitter, another user hit out at Musk and pointed to the deal that didn’t materialise.

The user said, “You don’t want it, trust me this guy just signed a deal to buy Twitter for $44 billion without due diligence, then realized it was a bad deal. Backed off, And he is being prosecuted,” the user said.

Elon Musk is locked in a court battle with Twitter over a failed takeover bid that Twitter now intends to implement.

The microblogging website and the world’s richest man is now headed for lawsuit after Musk sought to drop his deal to acquire Twitter on what he says is a misrepresentation of fake accounts on the site.

Twitter is trying to force Musk to go ahead with the deal, while accusing him of sabotaging it because it no longer serves his interests.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday deferred the hearing on the All India Football Federation (AIFF) case till August 22 as the Center said it is in discussion with FIFA on holding the Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India. The court also asked the Center to take proactive steps to organize the World Cup in India and lift the suspension of AIFF.
