“Happy to announce that our government employees will be entitled to a special leave of half a day to watch #TheKashmirFiles. They only have to inform their superiors and submit the ticket the next day,” Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.

Helmed by Anupam Kher, the film sheds light on atrocities against Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s, when they were killed, persecuted and forced to leave home overnight. The film, which underlines the brutality endured by Kashmiri Pandits, has received a huge backlash from the Center and the states. It also got Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.

Meanwhile, several states have given tax-free status to the film after a section of legislators said the film should be exempted. Earlier on Monday, the BJP also demanded that The Kashmir Files should be exempted from entertainment tax, while the BSP advocated a ban, arguing that such films create a sense of hatred among different communities. .
