london – Matty Bowen is joining the Milan Fashion Week schedule.
The Yorkshire-based designer will be showing her spring 2023 collection on the official calendar with the support of Dolce & Gabbana, which is supplying fabric and materials to Bowen.
Bowen graduated from Central St. Martins in 2015 with an MA in Fashion Knitwear. His graduate collection opened the final show at the University of Fashion which earned Bowen the L’Oréal Professional Creative Award, followed by the prestigious LVMH Graduate Award, which includes 10,000 Euros and a junior designer placement at Louis Vuitton under Nicolas Gasquire.
“Crafts and handicrafts are at the heart of my work, something to which I and this eminent mason are deeply related; The synergy of meeting Domenico and Stefano recently was evident,” Bowen said in a statement, adding that “they are still processing the idea that I am going to search their archives and look for their new outputs next spring.” I am mixing his historical work with. I can already feel the turbo charge of this alliance.”
Bowen’s avant-garde maximalist approach to design has seen her working on a number of accessories projects since 2016 while dealing with the likes of Coach; Collaborating with Miu Miu on a series of finished mannequins, and a series of limited edition Barbie dolls that were dressed in her clothing.
Fall 2022 was Bowen’s largest collection to date, titled Cyclone, which he described as “chaos and destruction – even beauty – in the wake of its power”. Model Irina Shayk opened Bovan’s show in an oversized Roksanda Ilincic gown.
Since her Fashion Week debut with creative hub Fashion East in 2017, Bowen has been staging solo shows during London Fashion Week, which has led to her designs being bought by MatchFashion and Milan’s No.30.
Bowen’s non-conformist aesthetic will revamp Milan’s traditional and star-studded schedule.
