It’s King’s latest fashion moment during the “Bullet Train” press tour. On Tuesday, the actress made her mark at the film’s Berlin premiere, where she paired a new pink bob hairstyle with an all-black Balenciaga jumpsuit.

Also in Berlin, King appeared at the film’s photocall wearing a black minidress from Nancy Dojaka’s Fall 2022 ready-to-wear collection, and was seen wearing a sleeveless black Paco Rabane dress at another engagement.

In Paris, King opted for a structured black dress worn over a white shirt from Thom Browne.

While King has consistently made an impression for his “Bullet Train” press tour look, his costar Pitt has also made his mark. Pitt abandoned his traditional, classic tuxedo style for the press tour in favor of more casual pieces. Her most striking look came Tuesday at the Berlin film premiere where Pitt wore a matching brown linen jacket and knee-length skirt.

King to give up crown

Citing a lack of motivation, chess world number one Magnus Carlsen announced on Wednesday that he would not defend his world championship title in 2023, but insisted he was not retiring from chess.

“I’m not motivated to play another match,” Carlson said in the first episode of his podcast “The Magnus Effect. I feel like I don’t have much to gain. I don’t particularly like it.” ”

Carlson has repeatedly indicated that, having been bored with a title he held for nearly 10 years, he may abdicate his throne without a fight.

The 31-year-old crushed Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi 7.5-3.5 in his fifth straight winning title match last December.

“While I am sure the match will be interesting for historical reasons and amidst all this, I have no inclination to play and I will not play the match,” Carlsen said in a podcast released on Wednesday.

Carlsen said he had met with representatives of The International Chess Federation (FIDE) to inform him of his decision in Madrid regarding the Candidates tournament – which decides who will get the chance to challenge the world champions.

“We had a small discussion. He had some suggestions, some of them I liked, some of them I didn’t, but finally the conclusion stands,” he said.

– ‘Zero’ – Carlsen said he had thought about the decision for more than a year, “long before the last match”.

Commenting on Carlsen’s announcement, FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovic said in a statement: “His decision not to defend his title is undoubtedly bad news for fans of disappointment and spectacle. It leaves a huge void.”

“But chess is now stronger than ever – in part, thanks to Magnus – and world championship matches, one of the longest and most respected traditions in the sporting world, will continue,” Dvorkovic said.

With five wins and nine draws, Nepomniachtchi won the Candidates tournament, but with Carlsen’s exit, “Nepo” will face China’s runner-up Ding Liren for the title.

Carlsen first became the World Chess Champion in 2013 when he defeated Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand.

A sixth successful title match could have brought Carlsen to the level with German Emanuel Lasker and Soviet Mikhail Botvinnik, the champions from 1894 to 1921.

Botvinic held the title between 1948 and 1963, although he lost and regained the title twice during that time, and his two successful defenses came in drawn matches.

“Overall I think it’s my time to leave the World Championship matches. I don’t rule out a return in the future, but I wouldn’t particularly count on it,” Carlsen said.

But Carlsen also insisted that he is not retiring from the game.

“Just no ambiguity here, I’m not retiring from chess, I’m still going to be an active player.”

He will then travel to Croatia to play in the Grand Chess Tour and then to Chennai, India to represent Norway at the Chess Olympiad.

ben stokes: ‘We are not cars,’ says England’s Ben Stokes, criticises packed playing schedule

England’s Ben Stokes said officials should stop treating players like “cars” and fix cricket’s “jam-packed” schedule to retain multi-format players.

Stokes on Monday announced a shock retirement from One Day Internationals, saying it has become “sustainable” for him to play in all three formats of the game.

He elaborated on his decision ahead of his 105th and final ODI which South Africa won by 62 runs.

“We are not cars,” the 31-year-old told the BBC Test Match Special.

“You can’t just fill us up and we’ll go there and be ready to refuel.

“We had a Test series and then the one-day team had a series going on at the same time – that was a little silly.”

Stokes, who took over as England’s Test captain in April, has been battling injuries in recent days and took a break from the game last year to focus on his mental wellbeing.

“I feel like there’s a lot more cricket for people to play in all three formats now. It’s a lot harder than it used to be,” said the England talisman.

“I look back when I used to do all three and didn’t feel like it was jam-packed and all that.”

The governing International Cricket Council seeks to stage a global event every year and the proliferation of franchise-based leagues has only added to the players’ workload.

“The more cricket that is played, the better for the game, but you want a product that is of the highest quality,” said Stokes, who was ruled out of this year’s Indian Premier League.

“You want the best players to play as much as they can all the time, and it’s not just me or us.

“You see it now around the world where teams have to rest certain players in a certain series so that they feel like they are getting a break.”

Ukrainian First Lady Sends Messages of Independence – WWD – Pen 18

Enjoying more space: While Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on a visit to Iran on Tuesday, First Lady Jill Biden met with her Ukrainian counterpart Olena Zelenska at the White House. President Joe Biden also made a cameo with a bouquet of flowers at the South Lawn event on Tuesday afternoon, White House Pool reports.

While the fashion choices of first lady and female politicians are regularly scrutinized in the press and on social media, Zelenska chose statement jewelry pieces for her second meeting with FLOTUS in two months. Biden made a surprise visit to Ukraine two months ago to meet Zelenska on Mother’s Day.

At least 12 million people have left Ukraine after Russian troops invaded the country nearly five months ago. For Tuesday’s photo-op at the Beltway, Zelenska selected a brooch and earrings from last year’s Guzema x Gunia capsule collection, titled Nezalezhna, the Ukrainian word for independent. Jewelry designer Valeria Guzema is helping those affected by the war by fundraising and donating benefits through the Guzema Foundation.

Zelenska was also scheduled to address Congress on Wednesday.

Zelenska’s accessories Tuesday featured an abstract pattern inspired by the ancient floral embroidery used for traditional handmade “rushnik” Ukrainian towels.

When Zelenska met Biden in Uzhgorod in May, she wore a “Freedom” pendant to Guzema’s most recent drop to benefit his foundation. Zelenska first wore Ukrainian fine jewelry during the 2019 election and at the inauguration. For the latter, the architect and screenwriter sported custom “I Need More Space” earrings.

Her visit to Washington, DC on Monday included meetings with Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as well as with Samantha Power, who heads the US Agency for International Development, which has been instrumental in supporting the Ukrainian government and humanitarian needs Is. Perhaps like the late former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Zelenska symbolically chose Ukrainian-made jewelry—a limited edition collection of Nezlezhna brooches and custom “I need more space” earrings.

As is the case with all sectors of society in Ukraine, the ongoing wars are giving a tough competition to the industries. In 2019, the fashion industry contributed 16,000 more jobs in apparel and footwear and 16,000 more in clothing manufacturing. That same year, combined, they generated $1.18 billion in revenue.

Le Superbe Resort 2023 – WWD – Pen 18

“We’re getting feedback from our stores that customers want to get ready faster, they don’t want to wait [until] October,” said L.A. designer Jeanine Braden, who will begin deliveries of her Le Superbay holiday collection in early September.

“It’s silly to hold back on this because everyone wants to be festive and flamboyant,” he said during a preview, noting that his years as a retailer in Fred Segal flair are now his experience as a designer. How does it affect choice?

Looking at the crowds waiting to flock to Hollywood hot spots like Katie’s and Desert 5 spots this summer, wearing all manner of tulle tops, sequins, and bandage dresses before the sun goes down, she’s not wrong.

Go Big or Go Home was the theme of their gorgeous yet wearable resort collection, which has plenty of all-out options at an upscale contemporary price point, beginning with her signature swish pleated skirt in silver-gold lamé mix (beloved by Belinda Carlisle). ) comes from. To pair with sequins, silky rose or shade leopard print blouses, leopard or rainbow ombre. Fuzzy faux furs, and sparkly knits abound, but a gray cable-knit cropped cardigan with sequin palm tree embroidery is really Cali festive.

“We tried to do the silhouette we knew. It’s a difficult time, you want people to wear it and feel great and maybe wear it again,” Braden said of trying to create a fashion that was disposable. Not there.

With so many weddings on the calendar, Braden serves up tons of slinky sequin dresses that hug in all the right places, including a silver long-sleeved number that looks like it should be worth more.

In the category she calls “high sport,” a black-and-white houndstooth sequin bomber works with black slit front ponte leggings, and easy sweatshirts and sweatshirt dresses are teamed with jewelry or feather trim.
