BookMyShow sees rush of users post-Covid wave with highest-ever ticket bookings

New Delhi: Online ticketing and entertainment platform BookMyShow on Friday said it is witnessing a rush of users with the easing of restrictions related to COVID-19 as it registered the highest number of ticket bookings of 2.9 crore on its platform in April this year. The company said that its Transaction Video on Demand (TVOD) streaming platform also recorded the highest number of transactions in April with sales of 52,000 crore streams.

BookMyShow Cinemas COO said, “BookMyShow achieved a remarkable milestone in April 2022, both in its flagship content pillar – cinema vertical and TVOD platform BookMyShow Stream – setting the tone for the Indian film entertainment industry. ” Ashish Saxena said in a statement.

In January 2020, Bookmyshow crossed 22 million ticket sales from its platform.

Between October 2020 and February 2021, it had an average monthly sales of over 20 million tickets, the highest in January 2021 of over 5 million.

Between October 2021 and March 2022, average monthly ticket sales reached 12 million, indicating a six-fold increase in consumption since the end of the first COVID wave.

“In October 2021, we sold 7 million tickets within just 9 days of the month when occupancy restrictions were eased for cinemas in India,” the statement said.

In the case of TVOD, BookMyShow said it has seen 35 percent of its transacting consumers stream content on BookMyShow streams.

The statement read, “BookMyShow crossed 29 million tickets sold on the platform in April 2022, a phenomenal success, which comes close to the platform’s previous highest record of 26 million tickets sold in March 2022 ”
