trinamool congress: Amit Shah seeks CBI probe on BJYM worker’s death, slams Bengal government

Kolkata: Amidst Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to West Bengal, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth wing leader was found hanging allegedly in an abandoned building of the Kashipur Railway Yard on Friday morning.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has taken cognizance of the alleged “murder” and sought a report from the West Bengal government. Shah met Chaurasia’s family members in Kashipur and said that there should be a CBI inquiry.

“The day Mamata Banerjee’s government completed one year of its third term, violence against the opposition started,” Shah said. The Bengal unit of the BJP immediately moved the Calcutta High Court. The court ordered a post-mortem at the Command Hospital here.

Shah held a high-level meeting with BJP leaders, MPs and MLAs in Kolkata to prepare the party’s road map. “BJP should fight Trinamool politically and win the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. If you are in the opposition, you have to bear these things,” sources told ET.

A section of BJP state leaders had demanded the imposition of Article 356, which Shah rejected. Chaurasia (26), who was the vice-president of Kashipur Paschim Mandal, was found hanging in an abandoned building. He had mysteriously disappeared on Thursday evening and his body was recovered on Friday morning.

Chaurasia’s family claimed that he was murdered. The deceased BJP leader’s sister said, “My brother cannot commit suicide. He has been murdered.”

Following the incident, the Bengal unit of the BJP canceled all programs to welcome Shah at the Kolkata airport. Local people protested in the area.

Hitting out at the Trinamool Congress administration, Minister of State Subhash Sarkar said, “They (Trinamool) have such audacity that the young leader has been killed when the Union Home Minister is in Kolkata. This is not possible without the instigation of the administration and the police.” Meanwhile, the Trinamool said that the BJP is trying to do politics with the dead body.
