Daniel Lismore, Vanity Milan Walk in Platinum Jubilee Fashion Show – WWD – Pen 18

london – Saturday night in London wasn’t about musical talent or the Queen’s on-screen tea with Paddington Bears. Alumni of the London College of Fashion’s MA Costume Design for Performance program create eight bespoke outfits as part of a live catwalk performance during the Platinum Jubilee Party at the Palace.

According to the London College of Fashion, designers have looked to the Queen’s style over the past 70 years and “reimagined her outfits for the stage”. It was an exuberant, irreverent outing with designers including Vanity Milan, a star of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, and artist and designer Daniel Lismore showing off their creations on models.

The catwalk show took place during Duran Duran’s performance of “Girls on Film”, and her sketches were projected on the façade of Buckingham Palace. Other musical artists in the night include Diana Ross, George Ezra and the rock band Queen.

The BBC, which broadcast the event, said that 11.2 million people in Britain watched the live event on Saturday night.

Professor Andrew Taverson, Head of the London College of Fashion, which is part of the University of Arts London, said the college worked closely with the BBC, and was “honoured to be on stage with some of the UK’s most celebrated artists. The show Brings together music and fashion and showcases the best of the UK’s creative industries; an industry that plays such an important role in our culture and heritage.

“Our talented alumni worked day and night to finish the costumes in time for Saturday’s show, and seeing them on stage with Duran Duran and their inspiration sketches projected directly onto Buckingham Palace was such an iconic moment, ” They said.

Students attending an MA course at the London College of Fashion learn to dress for live, film and digital performances. They work in the theatre, film and music entertainment industries.

Alumni of the program include Emmy Award winner Mark Pilcher, who worked on “Bridgeton” and “Downton Abbey”; Lisa Duncan, who did costumes for Steve McQueen’s “Small X” and the musical “Get Up Stand Up – The Bob Marley Musical”, and Lynsey Moore, who received Emmys for her work on Michaela Coel’s “I May Destroy You” was nominated for. ,
