Irene Neuwirth, known for playful tropical flowers and candy stone necklaces beaded in opal, tanzanite, chrysoprase, tourmaline and other colorful gems inspired by sand and surf – and for creating the famous pearl link necklace worn by Vice President Kamala Harris – Establishing roots in New York.
The L.A. jewelry designer has signed a lease at 937 Madison Avenue, planned to open in November.
This is the second retail store for the designer, after the Melrose Place boutique opened in LA in 2014. She has a shop-in-shop at Laura Winrot-Poole’s Capitol boutique in Brentwood, which opened in 2019.
Like the L.A. store, the New York outpost will be conceived by interior designer Pam Shamshiri, and will have enough space to host intimate lunches and dinners.
He recently said that Neuwirth has strengthened its business during the pandemic and has been able to increase sales. When she’s not designing the new Malibu home she shares with longtime boyfriend writer/director Phil Lord, she’s spending time on her first love, the ride. Earlier this month, she went as winner off the waiting list at the Devon Horse Show, earning the division championship in amateur-owner hunters ages 35 and older.
Neuwirth launched her collection in 2000, and her one-of-a-kind jewelry has graced red carpets with big names such as Cartier and Tiffany & Co., which have been known as Ruth Negga, Sarah Paulson, Busy Phillips, Julianne Moore, Julia Louis Dreyfus, and more. has worn First Lady Jill Biden.
Her opulent-elegant collection is also sold at Bergdorf Goodman & Neiman Marcus, Net-a-Porter, Matchesfashion, and the Marisa Collection.
The designer said she hopes to spend more time in New York, where her artist-mother Geraldine Neuwirth lives, and has rented an apartment on the Upper East Side, away from the store.
