The test, which is part of McLaren’s Testing Past Car (TPC) programme, will give Zehan a much-needed experience in a highly complex Formula 1 car.
Track time will also help him earn enough points to apply for a super license, which is necessary to compete in Formula 1.
Although Jahn is part of the Red Bull Junior programme, he has received the necessary permission from Keynes’s organization to test with a rival F1 team.
He has already said that the current Formula 2 season is a make-or-break for him as far as his Formula 1 dream is concerned. He is currently in the middle of his best season with five podiums in six rounds, moving him to third in the standings.
Speaking to UK media persons, the Mumbai-based driver expressed happiness over the opportunity but said it does not guarantee anything for 2023.
“It’s nothing related for me to drive next year in Formula 1. There aren’t a lot of seats opening up in F1 but I’ve had the opportunity to be in an F1 car and do well and if I get a chance I I want to. Be ready,” he said.
“I have never driven a Formula 1 car before. This test is for me to get to know the car and its features and explore its limitations.
“My goal is to win the F2 championship and hopefully I will do a lot and my name is there (for attention).”
He would circle the Silverstone track with speeds in excess of 300 kmph, pushing his body to the limit, especially the neck with g forces.
Fresh from the F2 round in Baku, Jahan said he is ready to take the big step.
“Apart from my neck, I haven’t done much extra. I’ve been busy with my racing (F2). I’m generally very fit and don’t struggle that much. I’ll find out at the end of the week but I’ve done my best. The body has been prepared as much as possible for testing.”
Jahan aims to become the third Indian after Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandok to run in Formula One.
