“The idea was that when you leave, or be out all day, and come home—you’re sweaty, a little sun-kissed—you get that refreshing shower and get ready to go out. Often, we were on the town from work to events, from dinner to drinks, having a touch base and feeling refreshed, clean, and sexy before heading out again. Your skin’s still hot ‘Your hair is still wet and you wear nice clean clothes,'” designer Daniela Kalmeyer said during her resort collection preview.
The familiar feel is sensual enough, as is its ready-to-wear.
For the resort, the designer continued to tap into a timeless and elegant feel while peppering in updates to their sold-out silhouettes – paying attention to revamping a range of styles for spring and summer, including several times at their Orchard Street store. But many times he was involved. She also had fun with it, offering slightly exaggerated, dressier options, like a standout new viscose twill lay smoking trouser with a structured blazer, a black-tie worthy vest, or a boxy golden cream evening shirt with sleek, spacious deep pockets. Trousers – talk about the glare of that sun.
sight: sexually sophisticated.
Quote of note: “When I was designing this, my friend Melanie Dir used to have a perfume [company] Called gamine – they are very visceral when she describes perfume scents. What I have, she describes as “sex and sunscreen,” she said of the scent, “Sun-drenched Mediterranean Sea Moss, Salter Amber and St. Tropez Sand Honeysuckle,” which directly informed the season’s palette . “Even though this collection considered beyond season and occasion — it could be a vacation in the city, in a mountain house, on the beach, anywhere — that smell and sense of being sexy were part of the inspiration.”
Main pieces: smoked cotton midi dress with strappy, crisscross back and sensual, low-cut armholes; fisheye darts and a subtle floral brocade floor-length slip with tied rounded back cutouts (reproduced from her collection); a pleated and pin-tucked skirt; a slinky backless, polka-dotted disco halter top; Myriad sleek suiting and outerwear from day to night.
Takeaway: The visceral feeling of an after-dark glow made for a strong Kalmere collection.
