Versace Resort 2023 – WWD – Pen 18

For the resort, the Versace goddess—a multidimensional creature who has appeared in different, unapologetic guise over the years—morphed into a confident partygoer. Her temple is a club, her ritual is set to the tempo of a throbbing beat, her (fashion) power is devoted to irresponsibly pulling off a mixture of disparate elements and contexts.

Donatella Versace related “Feels so impulsive and energetic this season, like our Versace girl has just dropped out of the club and is returning home wearing a lightweight spring party dress in her boyfriend’s leather biker jacket.” “It is these contrasts of the hard and the gentle, the masculine and the feminine, the formal and the playful, that I see the new generation as utterly questioning and quick-witted. It is a powerful thing to do,” she said.

Embracing that same rebellious attitude, the brand’s chief creative officer broke the fashion rulebook to freely combine different Versace codes into its bold, youthful lineup.

Frilly dresses splashed with orchid prints in acid tones were worn over logo T-shirts or with wide-legged pants, telegraphing a grunge vibe. The fluidity of the chiffon fabric contrasts with the sharp, elongated stitching, especially when peeking through the underside of a Manish pinstripe suit with ultra-structured, graphic shoulders.

Depending on the quality of the collection’s textures, flashy dresses were often embellished with 3D floral embroidery and recycled sequins; Tweed sets came with lurex threads and studded embellishments; While the soft, brushed leather detach introduced a biker theme. The stretch crushed velvet also made for a great clubbing look, as seen in the neon minidress with rolled edges and cutouts, as well as hooded tops and jumpsuits with crisscross detailing and Medusa buckles.

Greca monograms and “Versace on Repeat” patterns were generously sprinkled over shirtdresses and knits or tucked into vibrant pleated frocks. Grunge diamond-cut slashes appeared on knits, stitching, jersey pieces, and jeans, as did vibrant prints.

“These are forms that say: Never underestimate the power of the Versace woman,” concluded the designer.
