Shami also became the joint third fastest bowler to take 150 ODI wickets along with Rashid Khan of Afghanistan. Australia’s Mitchell Starrs (77 matches) and Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq (78 matches) are the top two places for fastest bowlers to reach 150 ODI wickets.
Coming into the match, Jasprit Bumrah’s six-wicket haul and Shami’s three-wicket haul helped India restrict England to 110 in the first innings of the first ODI of the three-match series at the Kennington Oval here on Tuesday.
Apart from Bumrah and Shami, the famous Krishna took a wicket. For England, only Jos Buttler could play a good innings as he scored 30 runs.
Deciding to bowl first, the Indian bowlers justified their captain Rohit Sharma’s decision as Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc on the England batsmen in the powerplay.
England scored 110 – their lowest ever score against India in an ODI. India beat England by 10 wickets and achieved the target of 111 runs in just 18.4 overs.
Rohit Sharma (76*) scored an unbeaten half-century and his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan remained unbeaten on 31*.
